About the Roanoke Valley Bird Club

The Roanoke Valley Bird Club (RVBC), established in 1957, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and a local chapter of the Virginia Society of Ornithology.

Our mission is to inspire the observation, study, and enjoyment of birds, while actively supporting their protection and conservation. We are dedicated to educating the public about birds, their habitats, and the vital efforts needed to preserve them for future generations. We aim to provide birders with opportunities to connect, share knowledge, and learn from each other.

The club organizes bird-related projects, including field trips, participation in bird censuses, the fall Hawk Watch, and other citizen science initiatives.

Additionally, RVBC is committed to supporting the protection and conservation of birds and their habitats, as well as educating the public about birds, birding, and the importance of conservation.

Fun fact: All of the photographs you see featured on this website were taken by our members!

Community Outreach

A representative of RVBC frequently talks to other local clubs, libraries, and community groups about the bird club's activities, backyard birding, declining bird species, and wildlife habitat preservation.
